Nadia Murad

Founder & Board Member

Nadia Murad, founder and president of Nadia’s Initiative, is an advocate for fellow Yazidis, survivors of genocide, and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence. Nadia’s Initiative is dedicated to rebuilding communities in crisis and advocating globally for victims of violence. Nadia actively works to persuade governments and other organisations to financially support efforts to rebuild Sinjar – the Yazidi homeland destroyed by ISIS – and to support victims of sexual violence. Nadia challenges world leaders to act – to make “never again” a reality, not an empty promise. Ms. Murad received numerous awards for her activism, including the Nobel Peace Prize (2018), First United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for the Dignity of Survivors of Human Trafficking (2016), Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought (2016), Council of Europe Václav Havel Award for Human Rights (2016), Clinton Global Citizen Award (2016), Hillary Clinton Award for Advancing Women in Peace and Security (2018), International DVF Award (2019), and the Justice O’Connor Prize (2020).
