In 2024, the Global Survivors Fund (GSF) and Nagarik Aawaz began working together in Nepal with more than 400 survivors of conflict-related sexual violence from the decade-long civil war.
The obstacles ahead of us were immense. The rural, mountainous terrain of Nepal posed one issue, but an even bigger question was how to reach survivors living in a society where they continue to face extreme discrimination. Many had not even shared their experiences with spouses and close family members.
Over the course of 18 months, a team in Nepal have documented the trials and successes of the project as it unfolded across five districts in western Nepal, which include extremely remote terrain. The result is our new seven–part documentary, ‘After the silence.’
Listen to survivors, the project team, and Nepali advocates share their stories, and the journey from Nepal’s civil war to the ongoing transitional justice process.
